Santa Monica CCD – Library Expansion

This expansion and renovation project turned the earthquake-damaged library into the new social center of the campus. The new 41,000 SF glass wing with horizontally louvered sunscreens maximizes natural light. On the existing façade, a front porch with seating visually identifies the facility and encourages student interaction. Stacks accommodating 145,000 volumes and reading areas totaling 1300 seats occupy two parallel wings, illuminated by the three-story sky-lit atrium.
