Located at the center of Palomar College’s campus, this new three-story, 110,000 SF Multidisciplinary Building houses Arts, Media, Business and Computer Science, and Social and Behavioral Science. Dry laboratories incorporate specialized electrical and control systems with premium grade cabinetry. Designed to Silver LEED certification criteria, the building integrates a range of sustainable features including: waste management, use of recycled and local materials, indoor air quality, water efficient landscape, artificial and natural lighting, HVAC controls and enhanced commissioning. To bring the project in on budget, an integrated project delivery approach was used to value engineering the building, reducing the original budget by approximately $10,000,000. Situated directly adjacent to another project under construction by a different CM firm, the teams had to coordinate site logistics, allowing access to both sites through the MIB project site. To ensure the success of both projects, the two teams met on a weekly basis throughout construction.
