The Chemistry and Biotechnology Building is a new 20,630 SF facility that serves as a core instructional hub for MiraCosta College’s STEM and Biomanufacturing programs, including California’s first Biomanufacturing baccalaureate degree. The two-building complex houses four chemistry labs, four biotechnology labs, and two flexible 40-person classrooms, all equipped with advanced instructional technology and infrastructure tailored to the specialized needs of laboratory instruction. Sustainable strategies include high-efficiency mechanical and lighting systems, eco-friendly interior finishes, drought-tolerant landscaping, and a building orientation that maximizes passive solar control. The structure integrates into the campus’s primary circulation path and features a shaded, Wi-Fi-enabled outdoor porch that supports informal learning, study, and campus events. Designed to LEED Silver standards, the facility enhances campus connectivity and provides a resilient, high-performance environment for science education and workforce development in high-growth biotechnology fields.
