SAN BERNARDINO, Calif., (June 23, 2025) — San Bernardino City Unified School District (SBCUSD) has broken ground on the $20 million James Ramos Center for Public Safety. C.W. Driver Companies, a premier California builder specializing in educational facilities, will be leading the construction of a 17,140 square-foot facility which will house the District’s Police Department, Office of Emergency Management, and cadet program.
Located at 701 N. E Street, the new one-story structure will reinforce the District’s innovative approach to youth development and public safety and support the District’s ongoing commitment to creating a safe, empowering learning environment for every student in one of California’s most resilient and dynamic communities.
“The brilliance of our students shines when they feel safe, supported and seen,” said Superintendent Mauricio Arellano. “This new public safety center is an investment in the people and practices that make our schools stronger, safer and better prepared to help every student succeed.”
Key features will include a modern dispatch center, interview and briefing rooms, evidence storage and dedicated space for cadet training and wellness. A clerestory lobby, conference room, gymnasium and secure parking lot with upgraded landscaping and hardscaping are also part of the project scope.
Constructed using Type II-B masonry and metal stud framing for maximum durability, the new building is strategically located next to the City of San Bernardino Police Department, allowing for enhanced collaboration between city and district safety teams.
A groundbreaking ceremony took place on April 7, 2025, with project completion expected in summer 2026.
