Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get on C.W. Driver’s bid list?
Fill out and submit our Subcontractor Qualification form. This form can be filled out and submitted online using the link below.
How do I receive bid invitations from C.W. Driver?
Being added to our bid list does not guarantee that you will be invited to bid our projects. Here are some helpful tips to ensure that your company is invited to bid our projects:
Come meet our Estimators – Our estimators are the people who select “who” bids “what” so it’s important for you to put a face with the name. Come by any one of our 4 offices and ask to see an estimator for a few minutes. Bring in a brochure about your company as well.
Participate in C. W. Driver’s Lunch and Learn program – Once a month we like to have a subcontractor come into our office and give a 1 to 2 hour presentation about their company during the lunch hour. We want to know what sets you apart from other’s in your trade, how you estimate your projects, what trade challenges do you face, what’s new in your industry, etc. This is a great opportunity for you to meet everyone and more importantly for everyone to meet you.
What are my requirements to bid to C.W. Driver if they are bidding as the General Contractor (GC)?
C.W. Driver encourages qualified subcontractors to bid our work. Whether you’re a new bidder or a proven professional with C. W. Driver we appreciate your interest in proposing on our projects. Please refer to the section “Bid & Build with C. W. Driver” for more details on licensing, bonding, and insurance requirements. W/M/S/DV/BE participation is welcomed and encouraged.
When bidding, subcontractors are required to review their scope of work with C. W. Driver’s lead estimator and adhere to all the project documents, bid instructions, and the C.W. Driver’s subcontract agreement. All bids must be received prior to the published bid date and time. A scope flyer defining the intent of your proposal is strongly encouraged at least 24 hours prior to bid time and may be a requirement on more challenging projects.
Bid documents can typically be accessed through this website on C.W. Driver’s secure FTP site. Electronic documents may also be obtained on CD’s if desired for select trades. Notifications to the bidders alerting them to addenda or changes in the documents may be transmitted to all bidders but it is still the responsibility of each bidder to check the FTP site prior to final bid submission.
When C.W. Driver is the Construction Manager (CM) for a project, are there any differences in how I submit my bid?
YES. Under the CM bid format you will be bidding in one of the following two formats:
C.W. Driver is the CM over Multi-Prime Contractors:
In this case, you will be the Prime Contractor for a portion of the work. Your bids are to be submitted directly to the Owner/Agency involved under the direction of C.W. Driver. For your bid to be accepted, you need to provide a sealed bid accompanied with a Bid Bond and follow all of the bid instructions. All bids must be mailed or hand-delivered to the Owner/Agency prior to the posted bid time. No faxed or late bids can be considered. In this format, each bid must be submitted on the project bid form provided. You are to bid on all of the work in your bid package, including all items described in that package. You cannot include any exclusions or qualifications; doing this will most likely deem your bid as non-responsive and rejected. Bid results are generally given immediately after the proposed bid time. Bid documents are obtained from the Owner/Agency.
C.W. Driver is the CM over a Single-Prime Contractor:
In this case, a group of pre-qualified General Contractors will bid the project directly to the Owner/Agency under C.W. Driver’s direction. You can bid in a conventional manner for your trade directly to these General Contractors. C.W. Driver will provide you with the names of the Prime Contractors. All your questions should be directed through one of the Prime Contractors. In this format, you do not need to provide a Bid Bond unless specifically directed by one of the General Contractors.
How can I obtain bid results?
For public jobs, bid results showing the apparent low bidders, will be available shortly after the bid. For any job in which C.W. Driver is the apparent low bidder, or are in negotiations with the Owner, bid results will only be available after all bids have been thoroughly reviewed and the lowest-responsible bidder has been determined. Bid results can be found by contacting the Lead Estimator for that project.
What are the benefits of Multi-Prime Contracting?
Benefits of Multi-Prime Contracting:
- Public award to lowest responsible responsive bidder.
- Standard of competition is higher since all trade contractors must bond.
- If the scope is in the documents, it is included and if not it is excluded.
- Trade Contractors are paid directly by the Owner.
What are the requirements to bid Multi-Prime Projects?
The requirements to bid Multi-Prime Projects vary from client to client; but in general are the same as any public works construction contract. To bid according to the contract documents and the public contract code, the Trade Contractor must:
- Submit your bid at the prescribed time and location.
- Use the Owner’s bid form and procedure.
- Acknowledge all addenda.
- Provide a bid bond from a California admitted surety or provide a Cashier’s Check for 10% of the bid amount payable to the Owner.
- List all Subcontractors that are more than 1/2 of one percent of the bid amount.
- Provide a non-collusion affidavit.
- Possess the required licenses required in the bid documents.
- Sign the bid forms wherever requested.
- If required, provide all documentation for minority or disadvantaged participation in the bidding process or provide proof of a good faith effort.
